HCU Suicide: ABVP plans debates to highlight its version

ABVP supporters in a rally highlighting their version on the suicide of Rohith Vemula.

Hyderabad: The ABVP, which is drawing flak over the suicide of PhD scholar Rohith Vemula, on Wednesday demanded that the Centre and state government bring out the facts on the issue and announced that it will hold nation-wide seminars and debates from Thursday to highlight its version of the sequence of events at UoH.

It termed the developments on UoH campus as a fight between supporters of Mumbai blasts convict Yakub Memon and patriots.

“We will conduct seminars, meetings, open debates in colleges and universities across the country over the issue. There are some forces in UoH, who support people like Yakub Memon. We need a thorough inquiry to bring out the facts,” said Vinay Bidre, national GS, ABVP.

Speaking to reporters, Mr Bidre alleged that in the wake of Rohith’s suicide, some of the teaching staff in UoH were provoking agitating students and trying to spread anti-national sentiments and activities in the campus.

“Our prime demand is that justice has to be done to Rohith’s family members. At the same time, we also need to know who provoked Rohith to take the extreme step because none other than his father is coming out in the open expressing doubts over Rohith’s death stating his son cannot resort to such an act and there is some conspiracy behind it. The Centre and state government have to bring out all these facts,” he added.

Mr Bidre said some issues between some student groups have been transformed into a fight between Dalits and non-Dalits by some political leaders who visited the campus recently.

He demanded that the judicial inquiry by the government should clear all doubts about Rohith’s death and his caste.
