GHMC polls: 57,000 new voters in IT corridor, list soon

Sources said the number of voters has been finalised at 5,71,575, including 2.5 lakh voters in Serilingampally circle.

Hyderabad: As many as 51,708 citizens who enrolled in voters’ list in the IT corridor have been deemed eligible to vote in the GHMC elections. Officials are expected to release the auxiliary list on public domain soon.

With the addition of new voters to the list, Kondapur division has become biggest among the 10 divisions in the IT corridor while Gachibowli has the least voters.

Sources said the number of voters has been finalised at 5,71,575, including 2.5 lakh voters in Serilingampally circle.

Earlier, the list consisted of nearly six lakh voters and has now been reduced to 5,19,867, after a “purification process” was taken up by the electoral authorities to remove voters who are no longer alive or have shifted to other places.

The government had given the opportunity to new voters to enrol four months ago and the applications received before the notification of the GHMC elections were considered and scrutinised.

About 611 polling booths would be set up for the GHMC election.
Serilingampally circle deputy commissioner V. Mamatha told this newspaper that about 2.5 lakh voters exist in the circle and 257 polling booths will cater to them.

Following the additions in voters’ list, Kondapur division has become biggest in IT corridor with 72,911 voters and Gachibowli recorded lowest with 42,080 voters.

Officials advised new voters to search for their names in the auxiliary list instead of in the main list.
