CM K Chandrasekhara Rao stresses on redesigning of water projects

CMplanning to give a power point presentation on this subject in both the assembly and legislative council.

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao who conducted a review meeting with irrigation officials at his camp office on Sunday has said he will explain to the people of Telangana on the need to re-design and re-engineer the projects on rivers Godavari and Krishna for overall improvement of irrigation in the region.

Some time ago, the CM was planning to give a power point presentation on this subject in both the assembly and legislative council. However, officials advised him that rules would not permit a demonstrative lecture in the Legislature.

On Sunday, the CM instructed officials to prepare a note on the need for re-engineering the water projects, on the basis of which he would explain matters to the people.

He expressed surprise over the undivided AP government's move to rush with construction of barrages on tributaries rather than on the main rivers to impound more water for better utilisation.

A series of barrages are now being planned in Kaleswaram, Medigadda, Annaram, Tummidihatti, Sundilla.

The chief minister asked WAPCOS to prepare designs so that construction works could be taken up on a war footing.

KCR told the review meeting that the proposed Tummidihatti barrige across Pranahita would serve the irrigation needs of Adilabad district, covering about 2 lakh acres.

He also said linking of Indira Sagar and Rajiv Sagar lift irrigation schemes was a must, besides having a major dam at Dummugudem in Khammam district across Godavari, and facility to store the waters at Rollapadu and Bayyaram reservoirs.

The CM has said the government would arrange a Rs 7,451 crore investment for taking up works in Khammam district to fetch 50 TMC ft of water to irrigate an additional five lakh acres of farmland.
