No political motivation, says Oommen Chandy
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Wednesday said that Lavalin plea was not politically motivated.
At the Cabinet briefing here, the chief minister said that the law would take its own course and that there would be no interference, likes or dislikes in such matters. When asked why Lavalin case sprung up only when elections are due, the chief minister said that the plea came up as part of legal procedure. “Let the people decide,” he added.
He refuted the charge that Lavalin review plea was filed to divert attention from his appearance before the Solar Commission on January 25.
When asked about the delay of over two years in filing the plea, the chief minister said that cases had come up after many years in the past too. He referred to Palm Oil case and Marad to drive home his argument.
Meanwhile, the chief minister said he welcomed the CPM decision to bring development on top of their agenda. "At least now they have realised that development was important. I welcome the deliberations that took place in the Study Congress. Unfortunately, the CPM is 25 years behind. They opposed computers, tractors and the state had to pay a heavy price," he added.
