Karnataka: BJP sees Cong plot to oust Upa lokayukt Justice Adi
Bengaluru: The BJP on Tuesday expressed dismay over Speaker, Kagodu Thimmappa’s decision to forward the motion for impeachment of Upa Lokayukta Justice Subhash Adi to the chief justice of the Karnataka high court for further investigation.
In a letter to Mr Thimmappa, party spokesperson S. Suresh Kumar said he was disturbed by the Subhash Adi removal episode. “This exposes the conspiracy of the ruling party to get Justice Adi removed. This will be a blot on parliamentary democracy,” he said.
Mr Kumar explained the chronology of events involved in moving the motion for Justice Adi’s removal, in the letter. “We came to know on November 23 that the ruling party was moving a motion against Justice Adi.
On Nov. 26, I asked for copies of the motion. The next day, the ruling party made one of its members, Tanveer Sait move the motion when the House was not in order.
Both the media and legislators overheard you saying the motion was admitted. However, later it was said that the motion was not admitted for want of evidence.
When the issue came up for hearing in the high court, the Advocate General took the same stance. Suddenly, it was announced on Monday that you have evidence and you are forwarding the motion to the chief justice.
We know that before lodging a complaint, evidence is gathered. But here is a case where the motion was accepted after which evidence was gathered which goes against the spirit of law,” he added.
BSY disputes Kagodu’s statement
Former CM and BJP Vice President B.S. Yeddyurappa has questioned Assembly Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa’s statement on removal of Upa Lokayukta Subhash B. Adi.
The Speaker had said on Monday that he would forward the motion on Mr Adi’s removal to the high court chief justice as there was enough evidence against him.
“Earlier Law Minister T.B. Jayachandra had stated that there is not much evidence against the Upa Lokayukta. But yesterday, the Speaker said the Upa Lokayukta would be removed,” Mr Yeddyurappa recalled while speaking to reporters in Udupi on Tuesday.
He alleged that the government was planning to make appointments in the Lokayukta as per its wishes. “If such a trend continues, then no judge would be willing to come to state,” he said.
He alleged that the government was delaying ZP, TP elections. On the appointment of new BJP state chief, he said the decision was left to the central leaders of the party.
