Mystic Mantra: The revolution within

Society has burdened everybody with innumerable thoughts.

The moment we mention revolution we think of the revolutions that are part of history — the political revolutions, overthrowing governments and changing the establishment, or the economic and social revolutions. But it is observed that the people who replace the previous group are replicas of their predecessors. The moment they come into power, the spirit of revolution dies and they are on a power trip. So how will the real revolution come about? Osho has vehemently stated and proved that the real revolution is the inner revolution. It happens inside the human being, within an individual, not in the collective. It is the inner revolution that brings freedom and the only way to make oneself go through the inner revolution is meditation. Does it sound too simple a solution to too complex an issue? Probably.

But if you try to understand how he defines the revolution you cannot but agree with him. Meditation simply means learning to forget all that you have learned. It is a process of deconditioning, a process of dehypnosis. Society has burdened everybody with innumerable thoughts. Meditation simply helps you to come out of that world of thoughts, into a state of silence. It is a process of cleaning your slate completely, it is emptying all that has been forced and stuffed inside you. Once you are empty, spacious, silent and clean, the revolution has happened; the sun has risen.

I experienced the truth in these words recently in Bengaluru in a meditation-intensive at a beautiful resort. It was a three-day programme where people did about six to seven active meditations a day. They were high-energy methods done with the supporting music composed under Osho’s guidance. Each meditation works on a different aspect of body and mind. The early morning Dynamic Meditation under the huge neem tree on the premises was a master key. It was so cleansing and rejuvenating that the freshness stayed with the participants all day. It is like recharging your body/mind every day.

People are unnecessarily carrying emotional and intellectual baggage in their minds, which is not needed for day-to-day life. Just sing more, dance more, fill the environment with your laughter and see the miracle that happens afterwards. It was an assorted mix of IT professionals, housewives, business people and students. None of them were believers in any sense. They had simply come to enjoy a long weekend. They were not on a serious mission of achieving a goal. I think that is why they got so much out of these meditations. Everybody got a slice of joy, inner light and laughter. They were truly revolutionised without talking about revolution. The lush green foliage of the resort reverberated their playful happiness. I suspect the sprawling neem tree must be missing our early morning meditation.
