ONGC Mori-5 Well Fire Intensity Drops, Blowout Continues on Day 2
ONGC says nearly 23% reduction in flame intensity as pressure eases; firefighting and evacuation efforts continue

The intensity of flames from the Mori-5 oil and gas well blowout near Irusumanda village in Malikipuram mandal of Dr B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district has slightly abated on Tuesday morning, a day after the incident occurred. Officials said the height of the flames has visibly reduced compared to Monday.
According to ONGC officials, around 23 per cent of the flame intensity has come down as oil and gas pressure is gradually getting exhausted. However, the blowout continued for the second consecutive day on Tuesday. The fire has been burning continuously for nearly 20 hours.
A team of ONGC experts has reached the site, while another expert team from Delhi is expected to arrive shortly. Firefighting operations are underway with water being sprayed from all four sides using water umbrellas. Arrangements are also being made to bring additional pipes from Narsapuram to strengthen the containment efforts.
ONGC Rajamahendravaram Asset Manager Santan Das and Tatipaka ONGC Refinery Manager KJM Rao are monitoring the situation at the site.
Meanwhile, several families from Irusumanda village have been evacuated as a precautionary measure and shifted to a Kalyana Mandapam in Lakkavaram village. Revenue officials have made arrangements for their shelter and basic needs.
District Collector R. Mahesh Kumar and Superintendent of Police Rahul Meena, along with their teams, are closely supervising and monitoring the situation, officials said.
