Hyderabad: Hyderabad MP and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has accused Jagdambika Pal, chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill of misusing his powers to block key issues raised by Opposition members in their dissent note before submitting the report to Parliament.
Speaking to reporters, Owaisi alleged that it was mandatory for the JPC chairman to notify members who submitted dissenting views if he intended to omit their concerns from the final report. He accused Pal of wrongfully removing essential factual issues from the dissent note by misusing his powers.
Owaisi explained that when the members who had written the dissent note were not informed of these omissions, they sent a letter requesting that their points be included. He also criticised the ruling party’s amendments, stating that they were passed due to their majority, while the amendments proposed by opposition members were ignored for lack of numbers.
Owaisi slammed the government for attempting to include non-Muslims as members of Waqf Boards and for proposing that elections to the State Waqf Boards be abolished, with the government instead nominating the members. ( Source : Deccan Chronicle )
