TSAB to set up 4 spl police stations to curb drug menace

Hyderabad: With a view to making Telangana a drug-free state, the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Control Bureau (TSAB) will soon form four police stations to crack down on narcotics trading and consumption. The bureau will be equipped with advanced devices to detect narcotic consumption and smuggling and logistics.
After a recent review meet with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who offered financial and logistics support to make TNAB the best anti-drug investigation agency in the country, bureau officials have accelerated their preparations, sources disclosed.
TNAB has chalked out a plan by identifying areas where demand for drugs is and has decided to make Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Rachakonda and Warangal as their functional centres, sources said.
Sources also disclosed that the police stations will be taking up complaints, investigation and will train police officials in collection of samples from the crime scene, identify consumers, seize contraband, file strong chargesheets to raise the conviction rate which at present is very low.
TNAB will be authorized to issue FIRs and officers will be constantly monitoring the case from detection, arrest to conviction.
Earlier, sources said, drug-related cases were not efficiently handled as officers, vested with the cases, were not properly trained in collecting samples, sending them to FSL and filing chargesheets.
