Telangana to Recruit 531 Surgeons, 193 Lab Techs, 31 Nurses Amid Staff Shortage

Hyderabad: The state government has announced the recruitment of 531 civil assistant surgeons, 193 lab technicians and 31 staff nurses. Taking into account the acute shortage of medical staff, especially in the monsoon where the burden on the health system is likely to increase with the spread of diseases, the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) announced the recruitments.

"Notification will be issued soon,” the CMO said and cited the acute shortage of staff in primary health centres (PHCs).

The Telangana Medical Health Services Recruitment Board (TGMHSRB) will issue a notification to fill these posts soon. The Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad would issue a notification for filling up of 193 lab technician posts. Notification to fill 31 staff nurse posts in various hospitals will also be out soon, as per the statement released by the CMO.

Appreciating the move, Telangana Medical Council vice-Chairman Dr G. Srinivas said that there was a shortage of about 1,200 speciality doctors. “With the establishment of 33 new medical colleges, there are seats vacant for assistant professors in teaching hospitals. In rural areas, the government has not made recruitments for village medical health officers, where at least one officer should be recruited for two villages,” Dr Srinivas said. “Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad last held recruitments in 2018."
