Warangal (Jangaon): A bitter family dispute over land nearly derailed a father’s final rites in Edunuthula village. For three days, the body of 65-year-old Velikatte Yadgiri lay uncremated outside his home as his son, V. Ramesh, aged 40, refused to allow the ceremony to proceed until a contentious land share was transferred to his name.
Yadgiri, who had two wives, left behind 15 acres of land divided equally among his children — five acres each for Ramesh (from his first wife Yadavva), and for Upendar and Shobarani (from his second wife Padma). Following the recent death of Upendar, his five-acre share was transferred to his sister Shobarani. However, after selling three acres, only two acres remained. Unaware of the transfer, Ramesh insisted that the two acres be handed over to him before permitting the funeral rites.
Local elders and family members pleaded with Ramesh to set aside the dispute and honour his father's memory. With tensions escalating and concerned locals seeking intervention, the police stepped in. Under pressure, Ramesh finally agreed to proceed with the final rites on Thursday, resolving the immediate standoff.
