Referring to several media reports, additional chief secretary of the state home and hill affairs department Nandini Chakravorty wrote in a letter to Mr Agarwal on Friday, “...it is learnt that the office of the CEO, West Bengal has informed the ECI that West Bengal is ready for Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls”

Kolkata: As the Election Commission of India (ECI) gears up to conduct the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voters' list in West Bengal, the Mamata Banerjee government has pointed out to the state's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manoj Agarwal that it has received "no consultation or prior intimation” from his office to get ready to start the process.
Referring to several media reports, additional chief secretary of the state home and hill affairs department Nandini Chakravorty wrote in a letter to Mr Agarwal on Friday, “...it is learnt that the office of the CEO, West Bengal has informed the ECI that West Bengal is ready for Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls.”
The letter added, “It appears that no consultation or prior intimation was made with the State Government by the office of the CEO, West Bengal in this regard. I would, therefore, request you to kindly confirm the veracity of the press reportage to dispel any misinformation.”
Meanwhile the ECI has sought a compliance report from state chief secretary Manoj Pant to its order of suspension of five state government employees including three officers for their role in addition of bogus voters' names in the electoral roll in two assembly constituencies, Moyna and Baruipur Purba.
The ECI letter stated, “No compliance report indicating specific action taken against each of the officers has been received in the Commission so far. The Commission has directed that necessary action against the above officers shall be taken immediately and a compliance report be furnished to the Commission, latest by 03:00 PM on 11th August, 2025.”
