TMC MLA Evicted, Suspended From WB Assembly For Disrupting Party Rebel's Speech

Kolkata: Beleghata Trinamul Congress MLA Kunal Ghosh, who is also a loyalist of party supremo Mamata Banerjee, was forcibly removed and suspended from the West Bengal Assembly on Wednesday after he allegedly disrupted his party rebel’s speech in the House.

The dramatic development unfolded during the discussion on the state home department budget. As TMC MLA and opposition chief whip Akhruzzaman rose to speak on the topic, Mr Ghosh rushed towards him from his seat also in the same bench. He protested his name's omission from the speakers’ list on the topic and sought his explanation.

Though Mr Akhruzzaman continued his speech, Mr Ghosh kept repeating his questions, leading to chaos in the House. Some BJP MLAs including parliamentary affairs minister Shankar Ghosh and higher education minister Jagannath Chattopadhyay intervened. They also tried to pacify the angry TMC MLA.

Assembly Speaker Rathindra Bose urged Mr Ghosh to return to his seat but he refused. Mr Bose then warned him of actions. Still, Mr Ghosh remained firm in his position. He was then removed by the marshals from the House following the Speaker's order. A tussle however broke out during the eviction as Mr Ghosh tried to resist it and ultimately fell down.

Later loyal TMC MLAs staged a walkout in protest of the action on their fellow. State industries minister Tapas Roy urged the Speaker to suspend Mr Ghosh for the remaining days of the session. Chief minister Suvendu Adhikari supported the move but proposed the action on Mr Ghosh for the day only.
