Odisha to Roll Out Kanya Sumangala Yojana, SOP to Address Financial Barriers
Officials said the Kanya Sumangala Yojana is aimed at addressing financial barriers that often impede girls’ education and development, while promoting long-term social and economic empowerment.

Bhubaneswar: The Government of Odisha is set to roll out the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for its proposed Kanya Sumangala Yojana, with detailed guidelines expected shortly, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida said on Thursday.
The scheme, announced in the state budget by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, is in the final stages of formulation, with the government preparing to release its implementation framework, eligibility criteria and fund disbursement structure.
Addressing the media, Ms Parida said the initiative is designed to provide structured financial support to girl children from birth to adulthood, with a strong focus on education. Under the proposed model, a financial deposit will be made in the name of a girl child within one year of her birth. The support will continue in phases, culminating in a payout exceeding ₹1 lakh when the beneficiary turns 21.
She added that the scheme will be implemented alongside existing grassroots platforms such as Anganwadi centres, ensuring wider outreach and streamlined delivery. The government is also finalising SOPs for related initiatives, including Subhadra Wellness and Subhadra Sambad, indicating a broader push to strengthen women- and child-centric welfare programmes.
Officials said the Kanya Sumangala Yojana is aimed at addressing financial barriers that often impede girls’ education and development, while promoting long-term social and economic empowerment.
The imminent rollout of the SOP is expected to provide clarity on operational details and timelines, marking a key step in the state’s efforts to enhance support systems for girl children and improve educational outcomes.
