Odisha to Recruit 1,840 Doctors, 5,000 Paramedics to Boost Healthcare

The decision aims to fill critical manpower gaps, especially in rural and tribal-dominated areas

Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to strengthen healthcare delivery across Odisha, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced large-scale recruitment in the Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) department.

At a high-level review meeting on Monday, the Chief Minister revealed that 1,840 doctors and over 5,000 paramedical staff will soon be appointed in government healthcare institutions. The decision aims to fill critical manpower gaps, especially in rural and tribal-dominated areas. Majhi also directed officials to expedite the recruitment of professors, associate professors, and assistant professors in medical colleges to address the shortage of teaching staff.

To ensure equitable healthcare, the Chief Minister stressed rational deployment of doctors across the state. He also called for enhanced incentives for medical professionals serving in remote and tribal regions, a long-standing demand to encourage retention in underserved areas.

The meeting also discussed increasing postgraduate (PG) seats in medical education, strengthening infrastructure in government medical colleges, recruiting more technical personnel, and establishing integrated trauma care centres in accident-prone areas to provide timely critical care.

Majhi further instructed the administration to address doctors’ concerns regarding recruitment processes, salaries, and working conditions without delay. The Chief Secretary has been tasked with ensuring swift implementation of these directives.

Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Finance Secretary Sanjeev Mishra, CM’s Principal Secretary Saswat Mishra, Health Commissioner-cum-Secretary Ashwathi S, National Health Mission (NHM) Director Brunda D, and Odisha State Medical Corporation (OSMSC) Managing Director Poma Tudu attended the meeting.

The recruitment drive, combined with infrastructure upgrades, is expected to provide a major boost to Odisha’s healthcare system, bringing quality medical services closer to people, particularly in underserved regions.
