Maoist Commander, Carrying Rs 8 Lakh Bounty, Surrenders Along With AK 47

These members are frequently involved in logistical support, setting landmines, or acting as section commanders within the PLGA: Reports

RAIPUR: A Maoist commander, carrying a bounty of Rs eight lakh, on Monday surrendered along with one AK 47 assault rifle and some electronics gadgets before the police in Kanker under north Bastar in Chhattisgarh, police said.

According to Kanker district superintendent of police Nikhil Rakecha, Darsu Sori, who was a PPCM (Platform Party Committee Member) in the company number five of the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) of Maoists, surrendered before the police to return to the mainstream of the society.

He returned one AK 47 assault rifle, and some electronic communication gadgets.

He was operating under the North Bastar Division Committee of Maoists.

A PPCM is the member of the party committee active at the ‘platform’ level, which relates to specific committees operating in the Maoist-affected areas such as Area Committees or Platoon Sections.

These members are frequently involved in logistical support, setting landmines, or acting as section commanders within the PLGA.

Sources said that efforts are on by the police to contact the remaining cadres active in the area for surrender following clues about them given by Sori.

Bastar range inspector general of police P Sunderraj hailed the decision by the Maoist commander to return to the mainstream and reiterated his appeal to the remaining cadres to lay down arms.
