Karwar: The ongoing verbal sparring between Uttara Kannada MP Anantkumar Hegde and Congress leaders continues to intensify, showing no signs of abating.
Clarifying that his statements are personal and not reflective of the party's stance, Hegde fired back at Congress leaders, questioning their credibility to discuss culture.
Speaking to reporters, Hegde pointed out instances where Congress leaders including CM Siddaramaiah had made derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the past.
Accusing Congress leaders of pandering to the minority for votes, Hegde strongly rejected their allegation regarding his silence for the past four years. He assured that he would address all questions at an appropriate time, emphasizing that there is no question of remaining silent on any issue.
Taking a swipe at Congress leader DK Shivakumar, Hegde dismissed concerns about his health.
Hegde also expressed confidence in BJP winning the next election and also asked Congress leaders not to worry about his candidacy.
"In the upcoming election, the BJP will emerge victorious, and we will ensure its success. Why should others concern themselves with my candidacy? It is my responsibility to contemplate it. The party's high command is entrusted with the task of addressing ticket matters. Let them (Congress leaders) focus on their own responsibilities," he said.
Hegde also expressed gratitude to CM Siddaramaiah for filing a case against him.
"I express my gratitude to CM Siddaramaiah for filing a case against me, bringing me back into the spotlight," he said during a party workers meeting.
"The construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya was not undertaken by a mere contractor; rather, it was erected by the sentiments and conscious efforts of the Hindu society," he said.
Hegde said that a leader must confront controversies and be resilient in facing whatever is said.
