Bhubaneswar: A major derailment occurred near Bimalagarh railway station in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Sunday, after four wagons of a goods train carrying iron ore jumped the tracks near the Dyam Basti area.
The train, identified as BOSM779, was travelling from Roxy railway siding to Bimalagarh when the mishap took place under circumstances yet to be ascertained. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries or casualties.
According to railway officials, the derailment happened just short of the Bimalagarh station, in close proximity to a densely populated area, sparking concerns about the safety of local residents. The derailed wagons have blocked a significant stretch of the railway track, hampering train movement on the route.
Railway personnel swiftly reached the site and began recovery and restoration efforts. Technical teams have also been deployed to assist in clearing the tracks and restoring normal services at the earliest.
Sources said the railway department has ordered a detailed inquiry into the incident. While technical glitches or track defects are suspected, officials stated that only a thorough investigation would determine the exact cause of the derailment.
