President Murmu’s Odisha Visit Deferred Amid Cyclone Threat; PM To Inaugurate RBI Facility

President’s Rairangpur tour rescheduled for November 4-5; elaborate security arrangements in place for PM’s visit on Sunday

Bhubaneswar: President Droupadi Murmu’s scheduled two-day visit to Odisha has been postponed by a week in view of the threat of a possible cyclone, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the state on Sunday to inaugurate the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Data Centre and Cybersecurity Training Institute.

The President was scheduled to visit Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district, her hometown, on October 28 and 29. According to officials, her visit has been rescheduled for November 4 and 5 in view of unfavourable weather forecasts and safety considerations.

The decision comes as a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm, with the possibility of affecting parts of the Odisha coast next week.

The revised itinerary, according to official sources, has been communicated to the concerned authorities, who will make arrangements accordingly. The President’s proposed engagements in Mayurbhanj will now be held on the rescheduled dates.

Meanwhile, preparations are underway for Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Odisha on Sunday. He is scheduled to arrive in Bhubaneswar in the afternoon and inaugurate the RBI’s newly established Data Centre and Cybersecurity Training Institute.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the inauguration is scheduled for around 4.45 pm. The facilities are intended to strengthen the technological infrastructure supporting the country’s financial system and enhance cybersecurity capabilities in the banking and financial services sector.

The data centre has been designed to provide a secure, resilient and scalable computing ecosystem for the RBI. The accompanying training institute will focus on cybersecurity, enterprise technology and emerging fields, including artificial intelligence and quantum computing.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made in the state capital ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit. Police personnel have been deployed at key locations, while senior officers will supervise security and traffic management.

According to police deployment details reported by local media, around 70 platoons of personnel will be engaged in security duties. Several senior officers, including those of the Additional Superintendent of Police, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Deputy Inspector General and Inspector General ranks, will oversee the arrangements.

The two visits were originally scheduled for the last week of October, with the President due to visit her home district shortly after the Prime Minister’s programme. However, the emerging weather situation has prompted the postponement of the President’s tour.
