Pattnaik’s Sand Art Pays Tribute to Armed Forces After Op Sindoor

Standing six feet tall, the sculpture bears the message “Bharat Mata Ki Jai, Justice Served”

Bhubaneswar: A powerful sand sculpture by renowned artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has drawn large crowds to Puri beach, offering a moving tribute to the Indian armed forces for the successful execution of ‘Operation Sindoor’—a retaliatory military action following the April 22 Pahalgam massacre.

Standing six feet tall, the sculpture, crafted on Wednesday, bears the message “Bharat Mata Ki Jai, Justice Served”, symbolizing national pride and the pursuit of justice. Created using nearly five tonnes of sand, the artwork highlights the transformation of ‘Sindoor’—a symbol of sanctity in Indian tradition—into a metaphorical weapon of justice.

Thousands of visitors gathered at the beach to witness the installation, with many praising both the armed forces and Pattnaik's artistry. "This is our humble tribute to the brave soldiers who risk their lives for the nation," said Pattnaik, who was assisted by students from his sand art institute.

‘Operation Sindoor’ was launched in the early hours of Wednesday by Indian forces, targeting nine terrorist facilities in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The strikes were a direct response to the deadly attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, which left 26 civilians dead.

In a parallel development, Odisha’s civil administration conducted large-scale civil defence drills across 12 key locations. The exercise, led by the Ministry of Home Affairs, aimed to test emergency response mechanisms, coordination among services, and rapid deployment capabilities from district to village levels. Senior officials supervised the operations as part of India’s broader push to strengthen internal security amid heightened cross-border tensions.
