Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi Inaugurates Rs 600-crore Power Infrastructure Projects

Bhubaneswar: In a major push to strengthen power infrastructure in the state, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday inaugurated a series of transmission projects worth around Rs 600 crore, aimed at enhancing electricity reliability and supporting rapid urban and industrial growth.

The projects include three grid substations and eight key transmission lines commissioned at Balianta in Khordha district, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.

Officials said the upgraded network is expected to significantly improve power stability, reduce outages, and cater to the rising energy demand in the state capital and adjoining areas.

In a parallel development, the Chief Minister also inaugurated a high-capacity grid substation at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. The facility is designed to ensure uninterrupted power supply to one of the state’s largest public healthcare institutions, which serves patients from across Odisha.

Addressing the gathering, Majhi said the state government was focused on building robust infrastructure to sustain economic growth and improve service delivery. He added that Bhubaneswar was being positioned as an emerging IT and semiconductor hub, necessitating reliable and high-quality power supply.

The Chief Minister also pointed to ongoing road development projects and planned housing expansion in the Balianta and Balakati regions, indicating increasing urbanisation in the periphery of the capital. Additionally, he announced plans to set up a gas-insulated substation in Nayapalli at an estimated cost of Rs 120 crore by April 2025.

The newly inaugurated projects are expected to play a critical role in supporting Odisha’s industrial expansion, urban infrastructure needs, and delivery of essential public services, aligning with the state’s broader development agenda.
