New Odisha Governor Arrives In Bhubaneswar, To Take Oath On Sunday
Braj Mohan Ram identifies unemployment, healthcare, education and farmers’ concerns as key priorities

Bhubaneswar: Newly appointed Odisha Governor Braj Mohan Ram arrived in Bhubaneswar on Saturday, with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy and senior state officials receiving him at the Biju Patnaik International Airport.
Members of the Council of Ministers and Chief Secretary were also present to welcome the new Governor, who is scheduled to be sworn in at Lok Bhavan on Sunday, October 18.
Ram’s arrival marks the beginning of the transition following his appointment as Odisha Governor by President Droupadi Murmu on October 12. He succeeds Hari Babu Kambhampati, who had been serving as the Governor of the state since December 24, 2024.
Speaking after his arrival, Ram indicated that addressing unemployment, improving healthcare and education, and resolving issues confronting farmers would figure prominently among his priorities.
He said he would assess the situation in Odisha through consultations with Chief Minister Majhi and interactions with people before deciding on the appropriate course of action.
“After assessing the situation in the state through discussions with the Chief Minister and citizens, we will take appropriate steps towards its progress. It is our duty to serve the people,” Ram said.
Emphasising the need for coordination with the elected government and engagement with the public, the new Governor said he would discuss various issues with the Chief Minister and citizens, depending on the circumstances, to understand the state’s concerns and work towards addressing them.
His remarks indicate an emphasis on public engagement and consultation as he prepares to assume the constitutional responsibilities of the Governor’s office.
Ram also expressed gratitude to the Union leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for entrusting him with the responsibility. He said he would discharge his duties by maintaining coordination with the state government and interacting with people as required.
The swearing-in ceremony at Lok Bhavan on Sunday morning will formally mark the commencement of his tenure. The appointment is part of a broader reshuffle of gubernatorial appointments announced by the President for six states.
