Madhya Pradesh: Mohan Unveils Vedic Clock, App
Mr. Yadav said until about 300 years ago, the method of time calculation used in India was also guiding the world, defining the glorious astronomy heritage of the country

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav on Monday unveiled ‘Vikramaditya Vedic Clock’, symbolizing India’s rich astronomy heritage, at his official residence here.
Mr. Yadav said until about 300 years ago, the method of time calculation used in India was also guiding the world, defining the glorious astronomy heritage of the country. The ‘Vikramaditya Vedic Clock’, developed upon this heritage, is a proud symbol of Indian tradition, he said.
Through this clock, the Indian method of time calculation has not only been restored but also demonstrated the capability of the country to synchronize tradition with technology, he said. The clock displays Indian Standard Time (IST), Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), and Vedic time, simultaneously.
In addition to displaying hours, minutes and seconds, the clock also provides a view of celestial ballet, including movements of planets and stars, solar and lunar eclipses, and the precise positioning of the celestial bodies. The chief minister also launched the App which will display the Vedic Clock in the mobile phones when uploaded and the APP is developed in 189 languages.
Highlighting the Sanatan traditions, he said festivals and observances are not determined by the English calendar but by the seasonal and celestial influences. He said the ancient Indian astronomers have correctly calculated solar and lunar eclipses.
The Indian scriptures calculate time with precision. He said Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh is considered the central point of Indian timekeeping, with its exact center in Dongla, a place associated with Lord Krishna and his childhood friend Sudama.
He said ‘Panchang’ (a traditional Hindu calendar and almanac) is a living example of the precision of the Indian timekeeping, providing accurate predictions of eclipses, constellations and festivals even today.
