SRINAGAR: An Indian Army jawan was killed in a clash with infiltrating militants who attempted to cross the Line of Control (LoC) from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) into the Uri sector of Baramulla district on Wednesday.
Troops engaged the militants in a brief but intense firefight. An official stated, “One of our soldiers made the supreme sacrifice while bravely defending the nation.”
The Army has launched a counter-infiltration and Border Action Team (BAT) operation to pursue the attackers, with search operations ongoing in the area.
It paid tribute to the fallen soldier, Havildar Ankit Kumar. The Srinagar-based 15 Corps (Chinar Corps) posted on X, “Chinar Corps honours the supreme sacrifice of Braveheart Havildar Ankit Kumar, who laid down his life during operational duty along the LoC in Uri, Baramulla." It added, "Chinar Warriors salute his immense valour and sacrifice, express deepest condolences, and stand in solidarity with the bereaved family.”
On Monday, another jawan, Banoth Anil Kumar from Telangana, died after falling into a deep gorge during a routine patrol near the LoC in the Bijhama area of the Uri sector.
