Heavy Rain Triggers Landslide On NH-520 In Keonjhar, Traffic Disrupted

Following the incident, Keonjhar Police issued an advisory to motorists travelling from Bhadrasahi towards Rajamunda, urging them to exercise caution while passing through the affected stretch

Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain triggered a landslide on National Highway 520 at Barabanka Ghat in Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Monday, disrupting traffic along the busy highway, officials said.

The landslide occurred under the jurisdiction of Rugudi police station after a portion of the hillside collapsed, sending soil, rocks and other debris onto the carriageway.

Nearly half of one side of the highway was reportedly covered by the debris, affecting the movement of vehicles on the stretch. The NH-520 is an important road link in the mineral-rich Keonjhar district and carries a substantial volume of passenger and goods traffic.

Following the incident, Keonjhar Police issued an advisory to motorists travelling from Bhadrasahi towards Rajamunda, urging them to exercise caution while passing through the affected stretch.

Authorities have initiated steps to clear the debris and restore normal traffic movement. Officials are also monitoring the area as continued rainfall could trigger further movement of soil and rocks from the hillside.

Motorists were advised to slow down while approaching Barabanka Ghat and avoid overtaking or speeding on the affected stretch until the road is fully cleared.

No casualties or major damage to vehicles were reported immediately.
