Boost To Odisha’s Idustrialisation As Vedanta Aluminium Signs Strategic MoU With Downstream Firms

Initiative aims to accelerate value-added manufacturing and generate employment

Bhubaneswar: In a significant push to industrial growth, Vedanta Aluminium has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with two manufacturing firms—Singhal Steel & Power Pvt. Ltd and SCOT-AL Metcon Pvt. Ltd—to establish downstream aluminium facilities at the upcoming Vedanta Aluminium Park in Jharsuguda.

The MoU was formalised in Bhubaneswar in the presence of industries minister Sampad Chandra Swain and additional chief secretary Hemant Sharma.

Envisioned as a world-class ecosystem for downstream aluminium industries, the Vedanta Aluminium Park is aimed at boosting value addition, supporting MSMEs, and strengthening Odisha’s position as a global aluminium hub. The initiative is expected to attract investments exceeding Rs 500 crore and generate around 1,500 direct and indirect employment opportunities.

Speaking on the occasion, Swain said the project reinforceD Odisha’s emergence as a leading industrial destination, adding that the park will catalyse investments, create large-scale employment, and enhance manufacturing capabilities across sectors.

Highlighting the strategic importance of the project, Sharma noted that the Aluminium Park will deepen the state’s industrial value chain by combining infrastructure readiness with policy support, enabling industries to scale efficiently and competitively.

Rajiv Kumar, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium, said, “The initiative reflects the company’s commitment to moving beyond primary production to value-added manufacturing. He emphasised that a robust downstream ecosystem would unlock new opportunities for industries, MSMEs, and local entrepreneurs while strengthening Odisha’s global competitiveness.”

Echoing similar sentiments, C Chandru stated that Jharsuguda remains central to Vedanta’s growth journey. He added that the park will foster sustainable livelihoods, encourage entrepreneurship, and contribute to regional development.

The first phase of the Aluminium Park, spread across 56 acres, marks a key milestone in Odisha’s industrial trajectory. Designed as a flagship downstream hub, it is expected to reduce logistics costs, energy consumption, and production timelines, thereby enhancing efficiency and competitiveness across the aluminium value chain.
