Woman Murdered By Husband, Daughters In Anakapalli

The immediate provocation came when the younger daughter, on returning from hostel on August 13, found explicit photos and suspicious call records on her mother’s phone and alerted her sister

Visakhapatnam:Anakapalli district police have arrested a man and his two daughter for the murder of 37-year-old Bankila Santhu, whose charred body was found near Batajangalapalem village on August 14.

SP said Santhu, a resident of Rajiv Nagar in Kurmannapalem, Visakhapatnam, was strangled by her husband Muralidhar and daughters Anusha, 18 and a 15-year-old minor, following disputes over property and financial issues.

The immediate provocation came when the younger daughter, on returning from hostel on August 13, found explicit photos and suspicious call records on her mother’s phone and alerted her sister. Police said Muralidhar, who worked in Qatar, used this discovery to convince his daughters that their mother had brought shame to the family.

The three planned the killing that night. Around midnight, Muralidhar strangled Santhu with a towel while Anusha held her mouth and the younger daughter restrained her hands. The body was later dumped and set ablaze.

Muralidhar and Anusha were arrested on August 25, while the minor was produced before the Child Welfare Committee. All accused were presented in court for remand.

Eco-friendly Ganesha idols distributed at AP Secretariat

VijayawadA:In a symbolic move ahead of the Ganesha festival, a large-scale distribution of eco-friendly clay idols was organised at the Andhra Pradesh State Secretariat on Tuesday, carrying the message: “Worship Ganesha made of clay, protect the environment — safeguarding nature is everyone’s responsibility.”

Minister for revenue, registration and stamps Anagani Satyaprasad, along with staff members and officials, distributed “seed Ganesha idols” crafted from natural clay. These unique idols contain embedded seeds, and once immersed in water after the puja, the clay dissolves and saplings sprout, spreading greenery in their place.

Simultaneously, under the aegis of the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB), similar clay idols were distributed among government employees in the Secretariat. The initiative aims to discourage the use of Plaster of Paris and plastic idols during the festival and promote environmentally sustainable alternatives.

APPCB chairman P. Krishnaiah oversaw the programme, which was also attended by State NSS Officer M. Sudhakar, APPCB environmental engineer Md. Najina Begum, and representatives from the Foundation for Environmental and Social Safety. The dignitaries underlined the crucial role of individuals in protecting and preserving nature, stressing that environmental safety is a shared responsibility.
