Veldurthi CI, SI shifted after TD leader’s murder

Kurnool: In the wake of the brutal murder of a Telugu Desam leader in Veldurthi mandal on Sunday, the local circle inspector and sub-inspector were transferred to the vacancy reserve (VR).

On Sunday, Gowrinath Chowdary, 35, TD leader of Bommireddypalle village in Veldurthi mandal, and his brother Kalyan were attacked by local YSRC activists. While Gowrinath succumbed to severe injuries, his brother Kalyan has been shifted to Kurnool Government General Hospital for treatment.

Bommireddypalle village has remained tense since the elections. The police also conducted bandobast in the village after a clash between the TD and YSRCP groups.

On Sunday evening, Gowrinath and his brother Kalyan were going to their home when they were attacked with hunting knives by YSRC activists. Gowrinath sustained severe head injuries while Kalyan was also injured in the attack. Gowrinath died on his way to hospital while Kalyan has been shifted to Kurnool Government General Hospital.

Two hay stocks and a two-wheeler belonging to YSR Congress leaders were burnt by local TD leaders in retaliation.

The deceased’s father Ramanjaneyulu lodged a complaint with local police mentioning the names of Ramakrishna, Ramesh, Chinna Pamayya, Madhusudan Reddy, Chakrapani Reddy, Bhaskar Reddy, Padmanabha Reddy, Tejeswar Reddy, Chaitanya Reddy, former MLA Kangati Sridevi, Kangati Rammohan Reddy and some others as suspects.

Kurnool SP G. Krishnakanth reached Bommireddypalli and reviewed the situation. An investigation was conducted into the reasons for the murder. Subsequently, Veldurthi Circle Inspector Suresh Kumar Reddy and Sub- Inspector Chandrasekhar Reddy have been shifted to Vacancy Reserve by higher officials. Madhusudana Rao from Kurnool Circle Police Station and Sunil Kumar from Kurnool Fourth Town PS have been appointed as CI and SI respectively. Police said that they have registered a case against 16 people in the murder case.
