Seven Killed In Head-on Collision Between Truck And Minibus in Assam’s Kamrup

Guwahati: Seven people were killed and seven others injured after a minibus collided head-on with a truck in Assam’s Kamrup Metropolitan district..

Police on Monday said that the accident took place on National Highway 27 at Tetelia near Sonapur late Sunday night. Four people, including a woman, died on the spot, while three others later succumbed to their injuries.

“Three more persons succumbed to their injuries. Another seven people are undergoing treatment at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital,” an officer at Khetri police station said.

The crash occurred late Sunday night on a stretch of highway when the minibus, carrying passengers, collided with an oncoming truck. Four people were declared dead at the scene. Several others were rushed to nearby hospitals with serious injuries.Three of the critically injured passengers succumbed to their wounds overnight and early Monday morning, hospital sources confirmed. The remaining injured are still undergoing treatment, with some reported to be in stable condition.

Police and traffic authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the collision. Preliminary information suggests the minibus may have been travelling at high speed, though a full inquiry is underway. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage. Local officials expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and said arrangements were being made for the release of the bodies after post-mortem examinations. Further details on the identities of the victims are expected to be released once next of kin have been notified. Traffic on the affected stretch of road was disrupted for several hours following the accident as rescue teams worked at the site.

According to Guwahati Police Additional Deputy Commissioner Safiqul Hussain, the minibus was travelling towards Guwahati and the truck was moving in the opposite direction.

"Suddenly, the driver of the bus lost control over the vehicle, jumped the divider and hit the truck on the other lane. The bus driver allegedly lost control after the vehicle fell into a large pothole in the middle of the road. We are examining the claim," he added.
