Prisons Win SKOCH Award for De-Addiction Centres

Hyderabad:Telangana Prisons and Correctional Services Department has won the SKOCH Award–2026 for establishing Nivrutti de-addiction centres in prisons. DG Dr Soumya Mishra received the award at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, on Saturday.
Dr Mishra said the initiative, aligned with the state government’s vision of a drug-free Telangana, was supported under the Union ministry of social justice’s national action plan for drug demand reduction. During the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, 4,200 inmates were screened, 2,126 received counselling and treatment, and 300 released prisoners were followed up.
An impact study by APCA, Vellore, presented at the International Research in Corrections Conference in Auckland, highlighted the programme’s effectiveness. The award recognised Telangana’s rehabilitation-oriented approach to addressing substance dependence among prisoners.
The award was conferred at the 109th SKOCH Summit – India Economic Forum, held at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, recognising the department’s innovative and rehabilitation-oriented approach towards addressing substance dependence among prisoners.
