Odisha: Man Stages Kidnap Of Infant Son At Khordha Station; Detained

Acting on leads, the GRP traced the child to the Kaimatia area in Ranapur and rescued him safely. The infant has since been reunited with his mother

Bhubaneswar: In a dramatic turn to a reported child abduction case in Odisha, the Government Railway Police (GRP) on Thursday found that the alleged kidnapping of an infant from a railway station in Khordha district was staged by the child’s own father.

The incident was initially reported from Nirakarpur railway station, where the man claimed that his infant son had been abducted on Tuesday night. A complaint lodged with the GRP on Wednesday morning triggered a search operation and preliminary investigation.

However, inconsistencies in the complainant’s statements soon raised suspicion. A subsequent probe revealed that no abduction had taken place. Instead, the man had allegedly handed over the child to his first wife and fabricated the kidnapping story to mislead authorities, police sources said.

Acting on leads, the GRP traced the child to the Kaimatia area in Ranapur and rescued him safely. The infant has since been reunited with his mother.

Sources added that the man and the woman who gave birth to the child were in a live-in relationship.

The accused has been detained for questioning, and legal action is being initiated against him for providing false information and causing public alarm. An official statement from the GRP is awaited.
