Maoist Leader Narla Sri Vidya, Wife of Key Dandakaranya Figure, Arrested in Hyderabad; ₹5 Lakh Reward Announced

Hyderabad:The police on Friday confirmed the arrest of Maoist leader Narla Sri Vidya, member of the Dandakaranya special zonal committee (DKSZC). The Telangana police had announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for her arrest.
Sri Vidya is the wife of Takkallapally Vasudeva Rao, a key Dandakaranya leader who is accused in the IPS officer Umesh Chandra assassination case of September 1999 and the Alipiri blast case targeting Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of October 2003.
Police said Sri Vidya who went by her aliases like Karuna, Rupa, or Rupi, was arrested at Hafeezpet, on Thursday. Hailing from Tirumalapuram in Nagarkurnool district, Sri Vidya completed her BTech from JNTU, Hyderabad. Her family has deep-rooted Maoist links, police said. Her brother Narla Ravi Sharma, arrested in 2009, and their sister Narla Sridevi were active in the banned outfit.
Sri Vidya joined the then People’s War Group (PWG) in 1992 with her brother, and worked with Chaitanya Mahila Samakhya, a frontal organisation. She went underground in 2006. She is accused of indoctrinating tribal youth in Visakhapatnam, Malkangiri and Koraput districts, leading to large-scale recruitment from Adivasi belts in Chhattisgarh including Narayanpur, Kanker, Dantewada, Bijapur, and Sukma.
Over the years, she rose through the ranks to become state committee member. Sri Vidya was also named in a criminal conspiracy case registered with the LB Nagar police in 2019.
Fake Certificate Racket Busted in Hyderabad: Two Arrested for Issuing Bogus Degrees; 22 Used Them for Overseas Travel
Hyderabad:The Shamshabad special operations team (SOT) apprehended two persons for allegedly issuing fake educational certificates in the name of Sri Vyasa Consultancy in Kukatpally, on Thursday. At least 22 people who purchased the fake papers used them to travel abroad.
Police said Akasapu Harish of Palakolu, and Mavuri Mahesh, of Danunjaya Colony, Kukatpally, were allegedly supplying fake BCom and BTech certificates from Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University, Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, by collaborating with one Mohan from Vijayawada, who is absconding.
The accused provided fake certificates to 24 aspirants, 22 of whom reportedly used them to travel abroad to countries like the US, UK, and Ireland. Another 22 candidates had paid half the amount but were not issued certificates.
The police seized digital copies of fake certificates from the suspects’ mobile phones and desktop. Two mobile phones and a desktop computer were recovered.
Sri Chaitanya College Staffer Arrested for Allegedly Diverting ₹13 Lakh in Student Fees
Hyderabad:The Dundigal police arrested one Srikanth, a staff member from the administration block of Sri Chaitanya College, on Friday for allegedly diverting the fees to his personal account. Dundigal inspector P. Sateesh said Srikanth had fled to his native village in Guntur in Andhra Pradesh.
Police said Srikanth had allegedly made parents transfer the fee money to his personal account instead of the college account and accumulated over Rs 13 lakh. When these students turned up at the college, the management asked them about the fee receipts. When the parents raised the issue with the principal, the college verified the matter and lodged a complaint with the police.
