Hyderabad:A 41-year-old medical representative from the city was allegedly cheated of Rs 60.9 lakh after being promised of high returns through stock market trading. He was allowed to withdraw Rs 1,193, he told the Malkajgiri cybercrime police in his complaint.
In November last, he had responded to an investment-related application while browsing through social media. Following this, he was added to WhatsApp group that projected itself as a professional trading and investment circle where members shared screenshots of the so-called profits.
The victim was contacted by a woman who posed as an investment adviser and guided him to register on multiple trading platforms through shared links. Initially, he was encouraged to invest small amounts and allowed to withdraw Rs 1,193.
Encouraged by this, he invested in what he was led to believed were stock opportunities and the trading dashboard showed large profits. When he attempted to withdraw the funds and was asked for additional payments. In all he paid `60.92 lakh before he realised it was a scam.
