Man Gets 10-Year Jail Term for Sexually Assaulting Girl

Kakinada:The 5th Additional District and Sessions Court, Eluru, on Monday sentenced Somireddy Haribabu, 27, to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment and fined him ₹5,000 for sexually assaulting a woman on the false promise of marriage.

Pronouncing the verdict, Judge R.V.V.S. Murali Krishna ordered an additional two months’ imprisonment in default of fine. Police said the victim was assaulted after Haribabu promised to marry her and was later threatened when she insisted on marriage.

The case was registered by Eluru Three Town police in June 2021. The court acquitted the co-accused, Venkateswara Rao.
