Bhubaneswar: At least three wagons of a goods train derailed near the Belpahar railway crossing in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district on Sunday evening, disrupting rail and road traffic in the area. No casualties or injuries were reported.

The derailment occurred around 5.30 pm, following which the Belpahar temporary railway crossing was closed as a precautionary measure. Vehicular movement on the connecting road came to a halt, forcing commuters to take alternative routes.

Railway officials said restoration work was taken up immediately, with personnel deployed at the site to clear the derailed wagons and restore normal operations. An inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the derailment.

Local residents raised concerns over the incident and sought a thorough investigation. However, railway authorities have not issued any official statement on the cause of the derailment or the exact timeline for resumption of full services.

Sources said efforts were underway to reopen the affected road by Monday after completion of clearance operations.
