Ex-cricketer Held For Posing As CM’s Aide

Nagaraju created a fake email ID and used it to impersonate the CM’s OSD.

Hyderabad:Hyderabad cybercrime police have arrested a fraudster for impersonating a senior government official and targeting businesspersons across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The accused, Budumuru Nagaraju, 32, a former cricketer from Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh, posed as the personal secretary and officer on special duty (OSD) to the Chief Minister of Telangana.

Nagaraju created a fake email ID and used it to impersonate the CM’s OSD. The fraud came to light after the actual OSD complained about the misuse of his identity.

Nagaraju recently attempted to defraud Krishna Mohan Bollineni, MD of Bollineni Infra Projects, using a fake ID. Earlier targets included high-profile entrepreneurs such as Aravind Sanka of Rapido, Srinivas Gupta of Gupta Realty, Sri Chakradhar and Nitin Kaushal of Country Delight, among others. He approached them via email, WhatsApp and phone calls, seeking money under the guise of official requests from the CM’s office.

Police said Nagaraju has 13 similar cases registered against him in Telangana and 16 in Andhra Pradesh. A non-bailable warrant issued in 2020 is also pending against him in Hyderabad. His modus operandi involved fabricating the digital identities of top officials and soliciting funds from unsuspecting business heads.

He was booked under Sections 66C and 66D of the IT Act and Section 319(2) of the BNS and has been remanded to judicial custody. A mobile phone used in the offence was seized and sent for forensic examination. Officials urged the public to verify such messages and report cyber fraud immediately by calling 1930 or visiting https://cybercrime.gov.in.


Ex-military college engineer held in cheating case

Hyderabad:The Economic Offenses Wing of Cyberabad police arrested an ex-employee of the Military College in Trimulgherry for allegedly swindling `4.48 crore in the name of deposits in J.K. Enterprises, Soumya Sri Hospital and Karthik Logistics.

The accused, Jetendra Kumar Choubey, hails from Bihar and is a resident of Alwal. The fraud came to light after Chandrawati Devi from Bolaram lodged a complaint with the EOW Police.

Choubey earlier worked as an electrician at the Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering in Trimulgherry. He retired in 2018. During his retirement time, he was residing in Bolaram and got familiar with the locals. Thereafter, he opened JK Enterprises, Soumya Sri Hospital and Karthik Logistics in Alwal.

By showing these companies, he lured people to deposit money, offering a 5% return per month on the deposit amount. His connection with the Army made people believe him and deposit funds. The complainant deposited `2 lakh, along with other ex-servicemen, totalling to `4.48 crore.

After providing returns for a few months, the accused in December 2024 closed all offices and fled. A case was registered against him under sections 316 (2), 318 (4), 351 (2) of the BNS and section 5 of TSPDFE Act, 1999. On Wednesday, the EOW police arrested him.

10 quacks held for running illegal clinics

Hyderabad:Cracking down on quackery, the Telangana Medical Council (TGMC) has filed police complaints against 10 fake doctors operating under the guise of RMPs (Registered Medical Practitioners) across Jagtial, Banswada and Gandhari.

The accused, many of whom were had worked as wardboys, lab technicians, and medical store workers, had been illegally running clinics and prescribing powerful antibiotics, steroids and painkillers without medical licences.

According to TGMC officials, cases have been registered under the NMC Act and other state regulations after inspections revealed several first-aid centres and clinics being run in residential neighbourhoods, often near schools and market areas.

FIRs have been filed at police stations in Jagtial, Gandhari and Banswada based on complaints by TGMC Registrar Dr D. Lalayya Kumar and chairman Dr K. Mahesh Kumar.

Among the accused are individuals using fake or unrecognised medical degrees and setting up centres with misleading names. Some were even allegedly involved in illegal activities such as prenatal sex determination and unauthorised abortions, according to TGMC public relations committee chairman Dr Naresh Kumar V.

The council has urged the public to report such illegal medical practices through their dedicated WhatsApp helpline (91543 82727). “The identity of informants will be kept confidential,” assured TGMC vice-chairman Dr Srinivas.

Manakondur cops arrest cybercrook in Delhi

Karimnagar:Manakondur police of Karimnagar police commissionerate arrested a 29-year-old man for allegedly indulged in luring the youth into a cybercrime trap and torturing them from Gujarat in Delhi.

Karimangar Rural ACP S. Prakash said they received a complaint from one of the victims K. Madhukar Reddy of Rangampeta village of Manakondur mandal, complaining that he was lured through a job notification on Telegram channel called Chinese Job by a person identified as Hitesh from Gujarat through Whatsapp.

After being selected in an interview, Madhukar was asked to come to Bangkok where he was directed to Myawadddy and Thailand. He was then taken to Hong Xing Company, a firm involved in cybercrimes, where he was forced to sign an agreement. Since then, he was subjected torture to indulge in cybercrimes and illegal activities.

Following the directives issued by the Union ministry of home affairs, the Myanmar government has sent the accused Hitesh to Delhi on May 21. The Manakondur police arrested Hitesh at Indira Gandhi Airport in Delhi and brought him to Karimnagar to send him for remand.

Man held for sexual abuse

Hyderabad:Filmnagar Police has arrested a 28-year-old software engineer for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman under the pretext of marriage. The survivor said she has undergone three abortions.

According to Filmnagar inspector Santosh S., the accused Archit and the survivor knew each other for two years. The survivor, in her complaint, said the accused promised her of marriage, although after getting intimate evaded calls from her.

The survivor was sent for a medical examination and later for counselling at the Bharosa Centre.

Decline in number of cybercrime complaints

Hyderabad:The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) has reported a decline in cybercrime complaints and financial losses in the first four months of 2025, alongside improvements in enforcement outcomes and recovery of stolen funds, DG (TGCSB) Shikha Goel said.

According to data from January to April 2025, financial complaints have dropped by 11 per cent, from 31,443 cases in 2024 to 27,890 cases this year. Subsequently, financial losses witnessed a 19 per cent reduction, from `542.98 crore in 2024 to `437.20 crore in 2025. "Our department works around statistics. That has been our area of focus. Statistics alongside coordinated effort contributed to this positive improvement," said the DG.

The proportion of money recovered rose from 13 per cent to 16 per cent from last year. "The Telangana police has always been dedicated towards financial recovery. With the help of the Lok Adalat mechanism, we were able to see this rise in recovery. Our teams have managed to recover funds even after the golden hour of reporting was surpassed," Shikha Goel said.

In terms of law enforcement, the FIR conversion rate slightly improved from 18 per cent in 2024 to 19 per cent in 2025. More importantly, the number of arrests surged from 230 to 626, and PT warrant executions increased from 53 to 89. "Our teams spread across different districts collaborate closely, prioritising arrests over case assignments," the Director General said.

Goel further explained that while this dip in complaints and rise in arrests and recovery is seen as a positive sign, digital literacy and continuous vigilance remains a priority for the department.


Sick man dies by suicide in Attapur

Hyderabad:A 51-year-old man suffering from mental illness reportedly died by suicide at his residence in Tejaswininagar, Attapur police said on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Gopal Panchal. According to the complaint lodged by his son, Varun Panchal, a software engineer, the family members had gone to bed on Wednesday night. While Varun, his mother, and younger brother slept in the bedroom, Gopal Panchal was sleeping in the hall. Around 6 am on Thursday, his wife found him dead. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway. Gopal’s body was shifted to the Osmania mortuary for the postmortem examination.

Fake finance agents rob mechanic of Rs 2,500

Hyderabad:The Attapur police registered a case after a 30-year-old AC mechanic was allegedly robbed of `2,500 by two unidentified persons posing as vehicle seizure agents at Pillar No. 161 near the Kala Hanuman temple in Attapur, on Thursday.

According to Attapur police, the victim has been identified as Mohammed Abdul Basheer, a resident of Moinabad. The incident occurred in the early hours of May 20 when Basheer was heading towards Mehdipatnam on his uncle’s motorcycle. Two men intercepted him, with one of them wearing a turban, he said, and added that they approached him saying there was a pending finance amount of `60,000 on the vehicle.

“They forcibly took him to Pillar No. 161, claiming they were from a finance recovery agency. When he questioned their authority, the turbaned man slapped and threatened to kill him if he spoke about the incident,” police said.

The duo initially demanded `8,000 to let him go. Following negotiations, they settled for `2,500, which Basheer arranged by borrowing from a friend. He was directed to a Mee Seva centre behind Golden Palace to make the payment. After receiving the amount, the accused returned the bike.

Based on Basheer’s complaint lodged on Thursday, a case was registered. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
