Hyderabad:A 70-year-old woman was assaulted and robbed of gold ornaments at her residence in Karmanghat, Saroornagar, on Tuesday.
Police said the victim, A. Suguna, who does home-based stitching work and lives alone, was attacked by a trio who had been visiting her house for several months under the pretext of giving clothes for stitching. During this period, they allegedly learned she stayed alone and conducted a recce for three days before executing the robbery.
On Tuesday, a woman and a man believed to be her husband, along with an associate, entered the house under the guise of handing over clothes. Once inside, they sprayed insect repellent on Suguna’s face, covered her with a blanket and assaulted her. She pleaded with them to stop and offered to hand over the gold kept in the house.
The accused fled with ornaments she was wearing — including chains and earrings weighing about 12 tolas — along with her mobile phone and five expensive saris belonging to her customers.
Saroornagar police registered a case and said teams have been formed to trace and arrest the suspects. Suguna has identified them, and investigation is underway.
