66-Year-Old Woman Dies Of Medical Lapse

According to investigation officer Lingam, Lakshmi was referred for a CT cystenography on Tuesday after experiencing persistent nasal discharge.

Hyderabad:Sistla Surya Lakshmi, a 66-year-old woman, died allegedly due to medical negligence during a diagnostic procedure at MedQuest Diagnostic Centre in KPHB, according to the police on Tuesday. Her son Sistla Venkata Abhishek, 34, reached out to the police.

According to investigation officer Lingam, Lakshmi was referred for a CT cystenography on Tuesday after experiencing persistent nasal discharge. At the diagnostic centre, contrast dye was administered before the scan. In his complaint, Abhishek alleged that the drug was given without necessary clinical precautions or allergy checks, which reportedly resulted in a cardiac arrest. He also claimed the staff did not provide intubation on time and instead blamed the family for not providing consent.

Abhishek alleged that the hospital lacked emergency response measures. Following the incident, the patient was shifted to a nearby hospital, where she was declared brought dead. “There were multiple instances of negligence during the course of treatment. Despite visible signs of distress, there was a delay in intervention, and proper medical protocols were not followed,” Abhishek stated.

Based on this, the KPHB police registered a case. Further investigation into the incident is underway. Meanwhile the body of the deceased was shifted to the Gandhi mortuary for postmortem examination.
