4 Detained With Ganja Worth Rs 22.75 lakh

The consignment was intercepted while being transported from Odisha to Pune in Maharashtra.

Hyderabad:Four persons were apprehended for transporting ganja worth `22.75 lakh by the HNPS and RNCC Railways wing of the EAGLE force, with the cooperation of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP), on Friday.

The consignment was intercepted while being transported from Odisha to Pune in Maharashtra.

The accused were identified as Prakash Chandra Pradhan, Ghansyam Badatya, Basanta Badatya, and Chitrasena Jani, 19, all from Ganjam district of Odisha. Police also seized four mobile phones and other incriminating materials.

According to police, the gang was part of an organised network sourcing ganja from Prashanth of Odisha, the main supplier.

The contraband was packed in trolleys and backpacks to evade detection and transported in AC coaches on trains.

Deliveries in Pune were made to two receivers, identified as Sai Ram and Mommy. The accused were paid Rs 10,000 per consignment and had jointly invested in purchasing the contraband to share profits.

They are suspected to have transported drugs more than 20 times over the past year.

Authorities said 147 accused persons have been arrested and 2,327.38 kg of ganja seized in 116 cases by EAGLE Force and allied agencies since 2024. They urged youth to avoid drugs and parents to monitor their children’s activities.
