22 People Fall Sick After Consuming Contaminated Water In MP Town

Bhopal: At least 22 people in Mhow town in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore district have fallen ill after allegedly consuming contaminated water, reports said on Friday. Four patients have been found to be suffering from typhoid, liver infection and jaundice, according to Mhow block medical officer Dr Yogesh Singare. Some other patients are showing mild symptoms and are being treated at their homes, he added.

According to him, teams are conducting door-to-door surveys in these areas to detect such cases and arrange their treatment. A campaign was launched to generate sanitary awareness among the people after the locals complained about the supply of contaminated water in their areas for the last few days, leading the people particularly the children to fall ill.

According to local sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Rakesh Parmar, water samples have been collected from the areas. Situation is under control now, officials said.

The incident comes amid the death of 24 people in Bhagirathpura area in Indore city allegedly due to water contamination in the past four weeks. The state government has launched a massive drive in the area to bring the situation under control. The sources of water contamination are being detected and plugged to ensure safe drinking water to the people in the area.

Drinking water in tanks are now being provided to the people in the affected area till the situation normalizes.
