2 Held for Robbing Labourers

The Rajendranagar and Shamshabad CCS teams, along with the Chevella police arrested two persons, for luring labour workers to isolated places and robbing them of gold.

Hyderabad:The Rajendranagar and Shamshabad CCS teams, along with the Chevella police arrested two persons, for luring labour workers to isolated places and robbing them of gold. Sampangi Srinivas of Warangal district and Pitala Venkatamallu of Karimnagar were involved in three robberies, four chain-snatching, two extortion and an automobile theft case, detective inspector Ch Upender said.

Police said Srinivas would hire a worker and take her to an isolated spot where Venkatamallu lay in wait. “After taking them there, he would snatch all the gold they were wearing, they would beat them up and threaten them to not reveal the theft to anyone.” the DI said. Police began an investigation after receiving a complaint.

After an effort of nearly a month, the duo was arrested. “They would often steal a bike, use it for a day, and later leave it and steal another one. They were also wearing caps and had travelled to several locations like Shabad and Kollur,” Chevella inspector M. Bhoopal Sridhar said.

While Venkatamallu was a first-time offender, Srinivas was involved in 22 offences, including murder, and was arrested in 12 of them, police said.

“Srinivas had bought a few properties valued at a few lakhs, which we are in the process of seizing. He does not have any other income source, and we suspect he bought these properties by selling the stolen material,” the inspector said.
