2 Arrested For Snatching Mobiles

Hyderabad: The Jubilee Hills police autorichshaw driver Naseer Khan and furniture shop worker Irfan Khan for reportedly snatching mobile phones from several people and selling them. Police said the do faced cases at multiple police stations including Filmnagar, Hayathnagar, Nampally, Kukatpally, Saifabad, Begumpet, Shahinayathgunj, Begumpet and Gudimalkapur. They were found with four phones.
Woman Found Dead at Her Residence
Hyderabad:A 40-year-old woman, later identified as Ketavath Bujji, was found dead, was found dead at her residence in Indiranagar, Chandrayangutta police said. Inspector R. Gopi said Bujji, working as a labourer, had migrated to the city from Nagarkurnool district 15 years ago. Her son had left for Nagarkurnool a week ago.
Her neighbours found smoke emanating from her room and informed the police. When the police reached the spot and broke the door open, they found her stabbed and the assailant had apparently tried to set her on fire.
“We do not yet know the motive of the murder. Post-mortem reports yet did not suggest any possibilities of an assault. Efforts are underway to nab the accused,” the Inspector said.
Lorry laden with grass catches fire
Hyderabad: A mini-lorry carrying dry grass caught fire after coming in contact with a live wire in Bannaka, Santoshnagar police said. Police said the complainant and vehicle owner Syed Jameel Ahmed stated that the driver Sarvarjith Singh was taking a short-cut through the Bannaka area by relying on Google Maps when the incident occurred.
Singh jumped off the vehicle to save himself but did not notice the vehicle had caught fire. The owner informed the police who arrived at the spot with fire personnel and doused the flames. Driver Singh was booked and arrested.
Good Samaritan killed in mishap
Hyderabad: A 25-year-old who had stopped to help occupants of a stranded car was killed and three others were injured when an overspeeding car hit them near Exit No. 17 of the ORR in Rajendranagar, at 2.30 am on Wednesday. IO Bhanuprakash identified the deceased as Boini Manoj Kumar of Siddipet district. Azam Ali, Md Ghouse, and Shifa were injured.
Police said Manoj was driving from Shamshabad to Gachibowli and stopped when he noticed a vehicle stalled near Exit 17. The vehicle was returning Maharashtra and had stopped after its tyre suffered a puncture.
When they got down to replace the tyre, a speeding car, driven by one Sheikh Mohid Pasha, rammed into them. Police said the victim could not spot the speeding car as it was behind a passing lorry. “We suspect that Pasha was trying to avoid a collision with the lorry, swerved and hit the victims,” the official said.
Police were called to the spot, Manoj’s father Boini Ramswamy travelled to the city from Siddipet after receiving information and lodged a complaint. Police booked Pasha and said he had cleared a breathalyzer test.
CID arrests ex-bank staffer for Rs 2.86 cr fraud
Hyderabad:The Crime Investigation Department (CID) arrested a former bank employee for his alleged involvement in loan irregularities and placed him in judicial remand on Thursday. CID director general Shikha Goel said Chettipogu Suresh, a former business correspondent at IDBI Bank’s Sathupally branch and a resident of Bhadradri Kothagudem, was arrested for colluding with other staff to sanction loans totalling `2.86 crore in violation of bank rules.
P.H. Hasim, deputy general manager of IDBI Bank, lodged a complaint with the CID, alleging that former branch head Nalagopula Ramesh, along with Suresh, Thati Chandra Rao and Merugu Siva Krishna, illegally sanctioned `2.61 crore to 279 borrowers under the Kisan Credit Scheme. An additional `25 lakh was allegedly disbursed to 26 individuals under a microloan scheme, also in breach of rules. Bank officials discovered that the passbooks submitted by the borrowers contained forged and fake revenue records. Based on the complaint, the CID registered a case and launched an investigation, which led to Suresh’s arrest.
Stick to timelines: Musi Corp chief
Hyderabad: E.V. Narasimha Reddy, managing director of the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (MRDCL) and P. Gouthami, joint managing director visited the riverside at Moosarambagh alongside engineers and departmental staff to inspect pilot signage and blacktop road.
Corporation’s director of engineering Satyanarayana explained the specifics of the proposed signage and layout. The team reviewed design drafts and assessed ongoing blacktop road works, while also discussing how these visual and infrastructural components would tie into the broader urban vision for the Musi stretch.
Narasimha Reddy directed engineers to finish the signage component within the timeframe. He also advised that the road work be carried out keeping long-term goals in mind, particularly the integration of public use spaces along the river.
The inspection was attended by Jayantilal, engineer-in-chief, roads and buildings, chief engineer Tirupathi Rao, senior officials from HMWS&SB, and Moosarambagh field engineers.
Hyd-Hanoi flight launched
Hyderabad: Vietnam Airlines said it had launched a direct flight service between Hyderabad and Hanoi on Wednesday. The service will operate thrice a week, on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Flight VN-984 leaves Hyderabad at 11.45 pm IST and lands in Hanoi at 5.25 am local time the next morning. VN-985 leaves Hanoi at 7.15 pm local time and arrives in Hyderabad at 10.15 pm IST.
“We are happy to start direct flights between Hyderabad and Hanoi. This will benefit both tourists and business travelers and strengthen the bond between the two regions,” said GHIAL CEO Pradeep Panicker.
All Set for ECET on May 20 for Tech Entry
Hyderabad:The Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) and JNTU-Hyderabad on Thursday released detailed instructions for candidates appearing for the Telangana Engineering Common Entrance Test (TG ECET), scheduled on May 20. The test is being conducted for diploma and BSc (Mathematics) holders seeking lateral entry into engineering and pharmacy courses. The exam will be held in two sessions — from 9 am to 12 noon and from 3 pm to 6 pm.
Candidates must report at their allotted exam centres at least two hours before the start of the test. Entry gates will close 15 minutes prior to the exam. Latecomers will not be allowed inside under any circumstances.
Admit cards must be downloaded from the official website and brought to the centre along with a valid photo ID such as Aadhaar, passport, driving licence, PAN card, or voter ID. Biometric verification will be conducted, and candidates must maintain decorum throughout the process. Items strictly banned at the centre include mobile phones, smart watches, Bluetooth devices, calculators, wallets, handbags, and study material. Only a pen, transparent water bottle, and the hall ticket are allowed. Face masks, gloves, and sanitisers may be carried if needed.
Candidates have been asked to follow the invigilator’s instructions carefully and are not allowed to leave the exam hall before the completion of the paper. Any attempt to cheat, exchange materials, or create disturbance will result in disqualification and possible legal action, the notice said.
Charminar Walk for Miss World Contestants
Hyderabad: About 120 Miss World contestants would walk through Charminar and Laad Bazaar, an event that would be broadcast in over 150 countries. Government officials said it was an effort to place Telangana’s heritage before the world, and bolster Charminar’s proposed inclusion in the Unesco World Heritage list.
The festival’s opening ceremony will be held on May 10 at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium and the final, after a series of events, on May 31.
Officials said 109 contestants had arrived by Thursday for the 72nd Miss World Festival. The airport and several spots had been beautified for the occasion. Among this year’s prominent participants are India’s Nandini Gupta, Athenna Crosby from the US, actress and media figure, Emma Morrison from Canada who advocates for indigenous communities and handmade artistry, and Valeria Caññavo from Venezuela, a country closely linked to the pageant world.
GHMC Survey to Spot, Vacant, Demolish Dilapidated Buildings
Hyderabad:As part of monsoon preparedness, the GHMC said it would identify dilapidated buildings and initiate action to vacate and demolish them. The process includes identifying the buildings, especially those housing educational institutions, issuing notices, vacating premises immediately, sealing structures.
Those that are found to be structurally fit will be repaired within a stipulated time. Those beyond help will be demolished. Barricading the structures and pasting caution notices alerting the people around the buildings that are structurally weak will be done.
A similar action would be taken with regard to old compound walls. If the property owner takes up repairs, they should ensure that the works shall be as per standards and they should also submit certificates on structural safety.
GHMC commissioner R.V. Karnan in a circular warned officials and staff of disciplinary action if there is negligence related to identification of dilapidated buildings and initiating action.
