Zubeen Garg’s Family Files Complaint with Assam CID, Modi Pays Tribute

Garg's uncle Manoj Kumar Borthakur, a signatory in the complaint, told PTI that they had sent it to the CID through email on Saturday.

Guwahati: The family of Assam’s cultural icon Zubeen Garg, who died by drowning in Singapore on September 19, has filed a complaint with the state CID, seeking a thorough investigation into the circumstances of his death.

The complaint, sent via email on Saturday, was signed by Garg’s uncle Manoj Kumar Borthakur, his wife Garima, and his sister Palme Borthakur. “We want a thorough probe into the circumstances of his death,” Manoj Kumar Borthakur told PTI.

A senior police officer confirmed receipt of the complaint and said the Special Investigating Team (SIT) of CID, already probing the death, will incorporate the family’s concerns. “We needed to ask certain things, and our officers met the family. Their statements are being recorded,” he added after visiting Garg’s residence in Kahilipara, Guwahati, on Sunday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Zubeen Garg during his recent remarks, noting the singer’s contributions to Assam’s cultural heritage. He described Garg’s untimely death as a loss that plunged the state into collective grief, with lakhs of people joining in mourning. Modi also highlighted the importance of visiting temples like the Ram temple and paid homage to Kannada author S. L. Bhyrappa.

The SIT continues to examine all aspects of the case to ensure a transparent and thorough investigation.
