With TMC Split Deepening, Omar Abdullah Declares NC’s Principles Are Not Up for Sale
He said every political party was free to make its own choices, but the NC would continue to be guided by its history, ideology and commitment to the people of erstwhile state of J&K.

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday asserted that the National Conference (NC) would not compromise its political ideology or core values for the sake of power, saying the party’s principles were “not for sale” despite shifting political equations at the national level.
Speaking to reporters during a visit to Bandipora district in north Kashmir, Abdullah was responding to questions about reports of some opposition MPs, including leaders from the Trinamool Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT), backing the NDA on certain issues.
He said every political party was free to make its own choices, but the NC would continue to be guided by its history, ideology and commitment to the people of erstwhile state of J&K.
“The National Conference has a long political legacy and a set of values that guide its decisions. Those principles are not for sale,” Abdullah said, adding that no offer or political arrangement could persuade the party to abandon its core stand.
“No matter what is offered to us or who chooses to support the NDA, the National Conference will not sell its morals and values,” he said.
The Chief Minister maintained that the party’s political decisions would be shaped by public interest and its ideological position, rather than by short-term political calculations or shifting alliances.
During his tour of Bandipora, the Chief Minister inaugurated and reviewed development projects worth nearly ₹ 300 crore across different sectors. The visit included inspections of ongoing infrastructure works and interactions with officials responsible for implementing public welfare schemes in the district.
Officials briefed the Chief Minister on the status of key initiatives and apprised him of the progress achieved so far. He reviewed works related to roads, public infrastructure, drinking water supply, electricity, healthcare facilities and other essential services.
The Chief Minister said the government’s priority was to strengthen basic infrastructure, improve service delivery and ensure that development projects were completed within stipulated timelines. He stressed that investments in roads, civic amenities, healthcare and employment-linked initiatives were necessary to address long-pending public demands.
During the visit, Abdullah also met local residents and several public delegations, who raised concerns related to road connectivity, electricity supply, drinking water, healthcare services, employment opportunities and other civic issues.
Assuring them that their grievances would be examined, he directed the concerned departments to take necessary follow-up action and address genuine demands on priority wherever feasible.
Reiterating his government’s development focus, Abdullah said governance and public welfare would remain the administration’s primary priorities, while the NC would continue to follow its established political principles irrespective of developments in national politics.
