Kolkata: The much-awaited portfolio allocations of the newly-inducted 35 ministers of the first BJP government in West Bengal is set to take place on June 5. State municipal affairs minister Agnimitra Paul indicated this on Wednesday putting speculations at rest following a quick New Delhi tour by chief minister Suvendu Adhikari on Tuesday night.
The portfolio allocations of the expanded cabinet of Mr Adhikari were expected on Wednesday. So far only a dozen portfolios have been distributed among five cabinet ministers while the rest have been with the CM. Meanwhile, the state government launched the roll out of Annapurna Bhandar, a monthly assistance of ₹3000 promised by the BJP in its Assembly Election manifesto, among 28 lakh women beneficiaries in the state.
While the list will be updated every seven days, a total of around two crore women is expected to be covered by the scheme of direct bank transfer-based payment. The state government has also sanctioned a third round of land transfer to the Border Security Force to fence the India-Bangladesh border. Ms Paul informed that around 46 acres of land would be provided to the BSF in this phase.
The state government also decided to formally observe June 20 as Paschimbanga Diwas or West Bengal Day and approved plans to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee. Ms Paul said, “On the occasion of the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on July 5, a year-long state-wide celebration will be held. To mark this occasion, a foundation stone of a massive 125-foot statue of Dr. Mookerjee will also be laid on the same day."
