West Bengal Government Directs Police to Hand Over Illegal Immigrants to BSF for Deportation, Says Weekly Report to CMO to Be Sent
He also ordered the police to send him a weekly report of such dispatch.

Kolkata: West Bengal chief minister Suvendu Adhikari informed on Thursday that the state police has been directed to hand over the illegal immigrants, not covered by the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), to the Border Security Force (BSF) for their deportation to Bangladesh instead of producing them at courts after catching them for infiltration. He also ordered the police to send him a weekly report of such dispatch.
Mr Adhikari, who chaired an administrative meeting in Howrah during a visit, said, “A law has come into effect in the state to hand over the infiltrators to the BSF at the Bangladesh border instead of sending them to courts. The Police Commissioner and Railway Protection Force have been clearly asked not to send illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, who are not covered by the CAA and caught at Howrah station, to courts.”
He added, “They will, rather, make arrangements to send the infiltrators directly to Bongaon at Petrapole border or the Basirhat border outpost after feeding them well. The numbers of these infiltrators have to be sent to the Chief Minister's Office through the director general of police every week.” Senior railway officials and Shibpur BJP MLA Rudranil Ghosh also attended the meeting.
Mr Adhikari's announcement came a day after his government transferred land to the BSF to fence a stretch of 27 kms on the India-Bangladesh border and implemented a central government directive on the deportation of infiltrators. The CM also asserted that the Howrah Municipal Corporation would soon see an election after a gap of almost 13 years. He indicated a crackdown on the illegal activities in the city on the other side of river Hooghly.
Meanwhile, one of the three accused, arrested by the state police in connection with the murder of Mr Adhikari's personal assistant Chandranath Rath, has been released following a court order earlier in the day for mistaken identity. Raj Singh, the suspect, was held before the CBI took over the probe. He is a resident of Ballia in Uttar Pradesh and was in CBI custody
The central agency however found that Raj was not involved anyway in the case but was caught in a confusion over the identity of another accused with a similar name. It prayed to Barasat Court in North 24 Parganas for his release. Later he was freed.
