West Bengal: 3 BJP Candidates File Nominations For By Poll

Their return to the RS is just a matter of time now as each of them needs 147 MLAs’ votes among 208 BJP MLAs in the House: Reports

KOLKATA: Three BJP candidates-- Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, Susmita Dev and Prakash Chik Baraik-- filed their nominations at the West Bengal Assembly on Monday for the Rajya Sabha bypoll in the state on July 24. They submitted their nominations to the Assembly Secretary, the returning officer.

Their return to the RS is just a matter of time now as each of them needs 147 MLAs’ votes among 208 BJP MLAs in the House. State BJP president Samik Bhattacharya, minister Suvendu Adhikari and several state ministers were present.

On the RS tickets to the former Trinamul Congress trio, Mr Bhattacharya, who is also an RS member, said, “BJP will not become TMC. We had given a call to CPI(M) and those who are clean in TMC, to bring a change in power. TMC has been uprooted. People do not want to hear about them anymore.”

Echoing him, state panchayat minister Dilip Ghosh pointed out, “It is nowhere stated in BJP guidelines who to recruit or not. A lot of people have joined us from other parties from time to time. Our CM here himself is a former TMC.” On the other hand, Ms Dev said that she feels “at home.”
