WB: Girl Gangraped During Durga Puja Pandal Hopping; Lover, 2 Aides Held

KOLKATA: A teenage girl was allegedly gangraped by her boyfriend and two of his friends on the pretext pandal hopping during Durga Puja in Murshidabad of West Bengal. The three culprits were arrested by the police later.
The victim is 15-year-old and also a class X student. She went out in the evening of Navami on October 1 for pandal hopping with her lover Suman Mondal. Her parents also had no objection as they knew him.
Suman however did not take the girl to any puja mandap. He took her to a secluded area where two of his friends, Manoj Ghosh and Subrata Ghosh, were already waiting. Then the trio dragged the girl to a culvert at Poradanga village on the outskirts of Berhampore, gang-raped her and fled.
Later, the victim returned home and narrated the horror to her parents. On Thursday, an FIR was lodged at the Satui police outpost under Berhampore police station. The three accused were arrested by the cops.
They were remanded by the chief judicial magistrate at the Berhampore Court on Friday in jail custody for 14 days. Meanwhile, three persons including two civic police volunteers were arrested for allegedly stealing gold ornaments from the idols at a Durga Puja mandap.
The theft, that took place in Gajol of Malda, was caught on CCTV leading to the arrest of the civic volunteers, Gaur Mondal and Sanjay Mondal, and a local resident Adhir Mondal. Ironically, the civic volunteers were posted at the same pandal for security.
