West Bengal Cops Foil Honeytrap Plot By JeM Suspect
STF Inspector General Gaurav Sharma said that a plot was hatched by the arrested duo to honeytrap Mr Rai’s son.
Kolkata: A day after arresting a suspected linkman of terror outfit, Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), from Burdwan East in West Bengal, the special task force (STF) of the state police arrested his female friend for allegedly plotting honeytrap to target heavyweight politicians for extortion.
Arpita Sarkar, the accused, was caught by the STF from Sahebganj in Jharkhand early Saturday. She is a close friend of suspected JeM operative, Hamim Mondal, arrested by the STF from a housing complex near Durgapur Expressway in Burdwan on Friday.
Hamim, originally from Kusumgram at Monteshwar in Burdwan East, was working at a garments factory in Pilkhana of Howrah for the last couple of years. He was remanded in 14-day police custody by Burdwan Court on Saturday. Arpita was also brought to the state meanwhile and was remanded by the same district court in 14-day police custody.
The two accused, who knew each other for the last four years and have been active on social media to spread radical thoughts among youth, are being interrogated by the STF in Kolkata. They came under the radar after state minister and North Howrah BJP MLA Umesh Rai’s son received a threat call about his abduction for extortion.
STF Inspector General Gaurav Sharma said that a plot was hatched by the arrested duo to honeytrap Mr Rai’s son. He also informed that chief minister Suvendu Adhikari was among the targets they had planned to harm and did a recee on his movements.
