UP Worker Held for Rs 6.37 Lakh House Theft in Mangaluru
Police recover stolen gold ornaments and wristwatch within 24 hours of registering the case.
Mangaluru Rural Police have arrested a 24-year-old construction worker from Uttar Pradesh for allegedly stealing gold ornaments and a wristwatch worth Rs 6.37 lakh from a house undergoing renovation in Maryhill. The entire stolen property was recovered within 24 hours of the case being registered.
The accused, identified as Zaheeruddin (24), is a native of Mujahani village in Balrampur district of Uttar Pradesh and was residing on Azizuddin Road in Bunder, Mangaluru.
According to police, renovation work was carried out at the house in Bandottu, Maryhill, between July 6 and July 16. During this period, a 20-gram gold bangle, a 17-gram gold chain, two gold rings weighing 8 grams and 4 grams respectively, and a Sonata gold-coated wristwatch, which were kept inside a purse in a table drawer, allegedly went missing. The total value of the stolen items was estimated at Rs 6.37 lakh.
Based on a complaint, Mangaluru Rural Police registered a case under Section 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation. During questioning of workers engaged in the renovation, Zaheeruddin allegedly confessed to the theft.
Police recovered all the stolen jewellery and the wristwatch from the accused. He was produced before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
The investigation was led by Mangaluru Rural Police Inspector D.R. Manjappa, Police Sub-Inspector Arun Kumar D., and other personnel of the station.
